Montreal’s one and only women’s flat track roller derby league!
Founded in spring 2006 by our own Georgia W Tush with a handful of
Montreal’s more adventurous ladies, Montreal Roller Derby (MTLRD) has
quickly grown into a league of three home teams (La Racaille, Les
Filles Du Roi, Les Contrabanditas), and two travel teams (New Skids on
the Block and Les Sexpos).
This game ain’t fake folks, MTLRD strives to demonstrate pure
athleticism, hard work, and strength. This league (a non-profit
organization) comprised of over fifty skaters, refs, and volunteers
is run “by the skaters, for the skaters”. In 2009, MTLRD became a proud
member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), not to
mention its first international member. WFTDA allows Montreal’s main
travel team (New Skids) to compete Internationally for rankings with
almost 80 other leagues, and help shape one of the fastest growing sports
out there.
Finishing up their third successful season, MTLRD impressed, thrilled,
and entertained over 800 fans per game. It has proven to be one of
the biggest threats within Canadian roller derby, and has certainly
not gone unnoticed across the border. The 2010 season will be upon us
shortly, you will be able to find out when the 4th season home
games are, and follow the travel team’s games all over North America!
