sore arches

sore arches

Postby suzeybq » Wed Jul 18, 2012 9:01 pm

So I am a newbie, big time, but i did ice skate as a kid and had the same problems then as I am having now.... my arches are killing me. I skated without arch supports... no good. Got arch supports... no better....is there some exercise that can help this... any other suggestions???? I gave up figure skating because of the pain in my feet, and I really dont want to give up roller skating and roller derby for the same reasons... I am having too much fun.
Thanks

Hey Suzeybq!

Sore arches can be a common problem. :(

You may want to try to warm up before getting those skates on your feet. You can do this by running on the spot, and rotating your feet a bit to loosen up the muscles.

While you are skating try to consciously relax your feet and toes. We tend to want to grip with our toes to create a sense of better control. This can cause muscle craping throughout your feet, and up your legs as well.

Hope this helps! :)
