What is the difference between a single action and a double action truck, and what do the degrees mean. I've been skating a year on sunlite plates, and am ready for something new, but I don't know what I am looking for when it comes to the trucks. Can anyone help?????

Single Action VS Double Action Trucks

Postby RollerGirl » Wed Jun 06, 2007 3:39 pm

Great question!

Almost all skates these days come with double action trucks. Single action trucks were popular for a while for speed skating and in the 70's roller derby. Although few of the new generation derby skaters use them today.

The idea is that they are more responsive and can turn easier in tight corners.

A Single Action Truck has only one cushion (also called bushing). It is located on the bottom (closest to the plate) of the truck. Single action trucks are 45 degrees. This refers to the angle of the pivot.

A Double Action Truck has two cushions (also called bushings). One located on the bottom of the truck and one located on the top. Double action trucks are considered 10 degrees. This refers to the angle of the pivot.
