The number of skates depends on your budget and expected attendance. For a group of around 30 skaters, a minimum of 50 pairs is recommended. This ensures you have a range of sizes and extra skates available.
Costs vary based on the model and quantity of skates, most rental skate kits range from $5,000 to $25,000 CAD.
To ensure the safety of participants, you'll need protective gear like helmets and wrist guards, along with optional elbow and knee pads. You'll also need replacement parts such as extra bearings, wheels, stoppers, laces, and insoles, to keep the skate ready to roll as they age.
While kits can often be delivered within a few weeks, providing a few months' notice allows for more options and minimizes timing issues.
Any venue with a smooth, level surface works well: Community centers, dry ice rinks and arenas, curling clubs, warehouses, empty retail spaces, outdoor lacrosse boxes, etc. Aim for at least 3,000 square feet of skating area, ensuring the surface is free of ridges, holes, or irregularities. For venues with columns or pillars, pad them and mark them with flags for safety.
Keep in mind: roller skates and gear take up significant space and can be heavy, plan accordingly for storage between events.
Sanitize equipment after each use with sanitizing spray, and if possible, use a UV sanitizer to disinfect multiple items at once. Additionally, establish a regular washing schedule for gear, pads, and liners to keep everything clean and hygienic.
