In this video we talk bout 5/16" roller skate stoppers (aka toe stops). How to identify them, remove, and replace them.
Hi, I'm Zoe from RollerGirl.ca and I'm here to talk to you about identifying, removing, and
replacing your 5/16" stoppers.
Let's get to work.
5/16" stoppers are identified by having a hole through the center of the stopper where a bolt
goes through and into your plate.
If you have this type of stopper, this video is for you.
If you have a stopper that has a bolt that goes into the head of the stopper, it is a 5/8"
stopper and this video is not for you, but we did make a video and it is linked in the
description below.
Your skates may need one of three tools to remove your 5/16" stopper.
The Rio skates use a 5mm Allen key tool like this one.
Some skates will require a flathead screwdriver, and some will need a Phillips head screwdriver.
To get started in removing your stopper, you want to insert the tool into the center of the
stopper and twist left to loosen the screw.
Remove your stopper completely.
If you're replacing your stopper with something new, you want to reuse the hardware that comes
with your original stopper.
It will be the most compatible with your skates.
Replacing your stoppers is super easy.
You want to insert the screw into the plate and using your tool, tighten it down, turning to the
right.
And you want to tighten it fully so it is flush with the plate.
Another difference between the 5/16" stoppers and the 5/8" stoppers is that these are not
adjustable.
If you want them to be more accessible, you need to purchase a larger stopper.
If you would like to have them less accessible or you're going to be using them for dancing, you
may require a smaller stopper or a jam plug.
